What’s Happening Near NC State University

The thing about NC State is that there’s always something different each year.

It could be a new brick walkway. It could be a new restaurant. Maybe an apartment complex. Or, in the case of Harrelson Hall, a new spot where a building used to be. (Building demolitions don’t happen often, though.)

Between the improvements to NC State’s campus and the revitalization projects going on along Hillsborough Street, you can always expect something to be different between May and August. That’s a good thing. It means there’s always something new to explore.

The good news: You can wake up 10 minutes before your 8 AM English class and still make it to Tompkins Hall on time. The bad news: These apartments may not be complete before you graduate. But it’s worth knowing what all of these new buildings will be.

Remember when Hillsborough Street didn’t have roundabouts? Or all those fancy student apartments? And when the Belltower was the tallest structure near Holladay Hall? Take a look at the good, the bad, and the ugly that came out of Phase I of revitalization.

Harrelson Hall will be “deconstructed” during Summer 2016, making the Class of 2020 miss out on these unofficial NC State traditions, including this slightly dangerous one.
